Game Day Dinner

Today we got the news that our nephew's soccer team had made it to the finals of a tournament that's been going for the past two days. We were working Friday and booked up with Memento Meal yesterday, so we were excited to hear we'd get the chance to see him play in the championship game today. We headed down to Kent to meet up with Dan's folks, and then we carpooled to the field.

I was really blown away by how skilled these 9yo kids are. Blake and his teammates were really gifted, and it's no wonder they won the tournament! I was also really blown away by how rowdy people got, myself included. You just can't help but get swept up in the excitement.

Afterwards, we went back to Dan's folks and caught up. Don put us to work on the ladder, picking cherries from "Dan's Tree", then suprising us by packing up almost all the cherries for us to take home - which I'll definitely be using to make our breakfast muffins for the week.

When Lisa was on her way back to the house (she's been house-sitting for a coworker of mine, it turns out), Carolyn retired to the kitchen to prepare dinner. A little while later we were delighted by quite a spread.

In addition to a beautiful steak she marinated with Dr. Pepper (a recipe she read about and had to try), she also made a salad using peas and lettuce from their garden out back, plus avocado, shrimp, & tomatoes. And she made a creamy potato dish. And she made some mushrooms.

And after our meal was settled in a bit, she brought out angelfood cake topped with strawberries and whipped cream!
