Hawaii Day 4: The Big Day!

Today was our wedding - the day we'd been preparing for over the past year. Everything came together wonderfully. You can read all about it soon on our new Hawaii blog - which will be a place Dan & I chronicle all our adventures in the islands.

Our wedding reception was catered by the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel. We stuck to pretty traditional luau food, which included kalua pork, chicken long rice, taco (octopus) poke, white rice, lomi lomi salmon, fresh pineapple, and of course, poi. There was way more food than we needed, but that's kinda traditional, too.

And our wedding cake was beautiful and delicious - a three tiered wonder in white buttercream with passion fruit filling, decorated simply with white ribbon around each layer and a cascade of purple dendrobium orchids. Claire at O'keefe Bakery did a great job... but I made the mistake of putting it on a table that wasn't totally level. After we cut the cake and everyone had a slice or two (or three), I went to photograph it and the whole thing fell over. We all cracked up laughing, and it made for a bunch of fun photo opportunities (and definitely will be a fond memory of the wedding that we'll never forget).
