This Week at the Farmers Market and Grocery Store



This morning, we again made it to the University District Farmers Market. It was freezing cold, but that just keeps the food fresher, right?! Here's what we picked up this week:
  • Pint of Raw Milk ($4) & a Smoked Pork Hock ($10.50) from Sea Breeze Farm on Vashon Island
  • 1.5 lbs Yukon Gold Potatoes ($4.10) from Olsen Farms in Colville
  • 0.72 lb Coho Salmon Fillet ($9.30) from Loki Fish Co., packed in Bellingham
  • 1 lb Ground Beef ($6.50) from Skagit River Ranch in Sedro Wooley
  • 2 Ciabatta Rolls ($4) from Preston Hill Bakery in Issaquah
  • 1 bulb garlic ($1) from Rock Island Red, Pipitone Farms of Rock Island
  • 1 lb egg pasta ($4.70) from La Pasta in Seattle
  • 2 Baby Bok Choy ($1.75) from Stoney Plains in Tenino
  • 6 Italian Plums ($3.50) from Tiny's Organics of East Wenatchee
  • 1/2 lb each of Extra Sharp Cheddar ($9.51) and Medium Gouda ($6) from Golden Glen Creamery in Bow (+ a free mini bag of crackers from Bread Farm in Edison)
Total: $65.86 (including the $1 for street parking)



And here's what Dan picked up for us at the local QFC:
  • 1 bottle Syrah wine ($9.99)
  • 1 bottle Marques White Wine ($8.99)
  • Small bottle Club Soda ($1.59)
  • 16oz can of Garbanzo Beans ($1.25)
  • 1 Bottle Cranberry Wine ($9.99) from Pasek Cellars in Mount Vernon, WA
  • 1 Hallmark Card for our nephew Jack's Birthday ($1.99)
  • Oyster Sauce ($3.29)
  • Cashews ($4.89)
  • 12 cans of Big K ($2.99)
  • Draper Valley Farms Chicken Breasts ($8.32)
  • Organic Romaine Hearts ($3.99)
  • 1 White Onion ($1.61)
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper ($2.50)
  • 2 Lemon ($1.98)
  • 1.37 lb tomatoes ($5.47)
Total with tax: $71.63

So our groceries for the week were $137.49, including the birthday card and bottle of Syrah for the party.
