Dan's writing a bunch about our trip to Vegas over on his blog, so I'll stick to the food and drink.
We flew into McCarran airport and grabbed a cab to the Planet Hollywood (formerly the Alladin), but found that our room wasn't ready. So we checked our bags in and headed over to the Hawaiian Tropic Zone (in the Miracle Mile Shopping center attached to our hotel.
The place is pretty new, so they're promoting it heavily - so we scored some 2 for 1 drink coupons and food coupons just as we walked in - a great way to start a Vegas vacation. I went for a margarita, and Dan opted for his latest favorite: the Mojito.
When we checked back in, we found the room still wasn't ready, and we were getting a little hungry, so we headed back to the Miracle Mile and stumbled across a very Hawaiian themed place called Cheeseburger Las Vegas. Pure kitsch decor, and an extensive menu of burgers. We weren't hungry enough to handle a full burger each, so we shared the creme-de-la-creme: the "It's All Good" burger ($12.95), which had a little of everything on it. And our waitress convinced us that some onion rings ($5.25) were vital - and we were happy she did. Both the burger and the rings were delicious. And to wash it all down I had their Mai Tai ($8.25), and Dan had a Kona Brewing FireRock Pale Ale ($6.00).
After dinner, we were able to check in to our room. And we didn't waste much time before we headed to our favorite bar on the planet... or perhaps the galaxy: Quark's Bar at Star Trek: The Experience inside the Hilton.
Though Dan isn't much of a Trek fan, I was raised to love all things related to the shows... and The Experience was on the top of my list to visit during our trips to Vegas. Sadly, it's being closed down and packed up at the end of August, so this was our last chance to enjoy the bar, restaurant, gift shops, museum, rides, and casino - all of which are fuly thematic. Even the men's room is full of lights and talking screens and sensors.
It being our last trip, we knew before we got there what we wanted to drink: The Warp Core Breach ($29.50)
Their menu describes it as : "(for two or more) (10 oz of liquor) Red alert! Order this drink and prepare to separate your saucer section! Sensors indicate four different flavored Rums, Razzmatazz and fruit juices. We add pure ice crystals from the planet Exo III. You'll need more than one officer to handle this situation."
I describe it as a huge goldfish bowl of rasberry flavored booze, bubbling over with dry ice. Dan & I shared two of them, which lived up to the promise of being more than one 'officer' could handle. After taking some photos with the resident Ferengi, we made our way back to our hotel and crashed out.
